Tack List — Support

Last updated: 9 September 2026

Help, answers and a way to reach a human about the iPhone and iPad app “Tack List”.

1. The five tabs

Today shows what is due now plus anything overdue. Inbox holds captures you have not filed yet. Lists has the smart lists — Today, Upcoming, Completed — above your own lists. Stats has your streak, a fourteen-day completion chart and a breakdown by list. Settings holds Obsidian sync and the about panel.

2. Quick Add and natural language

The blue + button opens Quick Add. Type the task the way you would say it and Tack pulls the structure out: Buy milk tomorrow 5pm #groceries becomes a task due tomorrow at 17:00 tagged groceries. It understands dates and times, #tag for tags and ! for priority. Anything it does not recognise stays in the title.

3. Home Screen widgets

Three widgets ship with the app: Today, Inbox and Stats. Long-press the Home Screen, tap +, search for Tack and pick one. They read the same data as the app, so they update as you tick things off.

4. Siri and Shortcuts

Three actions are exposed to Shortcuts and Siri: Add task, Complete task and Quick capture. Ask Siri or drop them into a shortcut of your own.

5. Obsidian sync

Settings → Obsidian → pick your vault folder. Tack writes one markdown file per task into a tack/ folder at the root of that vault, with YAML frontmatter so Dataview, Templater and your own scripts can read them. Sync runs both ways: edit a file in Obsidian and the change comes back into the app.

6. Obsidian sync is not picking up my folder

iOS grants folder access through the system picker, so it has to be chosen in the app, not typed. If the vault lives in iCloud Drive, open it once in the Files app so it is downloaded locally, then pick it again in Tack. Moving or renaming the folder outside the app breaks the permission — re-pick it in Settings.

7. Why is there no light theme?

Version 1.0 is dark only, on every device, regardless of your iOS appearance setting. A proper light theme is the first thing on the 1.1 list.

8. iCloud sync

The iCloud switch in Settings is a placeholder for version 1.1 and does nothing in this release. Your data lives on one device; Obsidian sync is the way to carry it between machines today.

9. Deleting your data

Everything lives on your device. Deleting the app removes every task, list, tag and preference. Markdown files already written into your Obsidian vault are yours and stay where they are — delete the tack/ folder yourself if you want them gone.

10. Contact

Bug, idea or complaint, write to contact@evtradelabs.com — a real person reads it, usually replying within a couple of days.
